Pope Flynn, a Columbia-headquartered law firm concentrating in public finance and governmental law, has received two Tier 1 metropolitan rankings in public finance — one for Columbia, SC, and one for Charlotte, NC — by U.S. News – Best Lawyers ® “Best Law Firms” in 2020. In addition, Pope Flynn has received its eighth national ranking, a Tier 2, in Public Finance, as well as two Tier 2 metropolitan rankings for Columbia in Corporate Law and Mergers & Acquisitions Law. Best Lawyers ® collaborates with U.S. News & World Report to rank more than 14,000 U.S. law firms by practice area and collects data through “client and lawyer evaluations, peer review from leading attorneys, and review of additional information provided by law firms as part of the formal submission process.”

To be eligible for a “Best Law Firms” ranking, a firm also must have at least one individual lawyer included in The Best Lawyers in America © annual peer-review ranking. Pope Flynn has five such attorneys recognized by Best Lawyers in the area of public finance law:

Margaret Pope, who has been listed in Best Lawyers for 18 years; Joe Lucas, who has been listed in Best Lawyers since 2005; Bill Musser, who has been listed since 2007; Matt Davis, who has been listed since 2016; and Lawrence Flynn, listed for the first time in 2019. Musser has also been listed for both Corporate and Mergers & Acquisitions Law since 2007. The Best Lawyers lists are compiled through “conducting exhaustive peer-review surveys in which tens of thousands of leading lawyers confidentially evaluate their professional peers.”

“We are thankful to be acknowledged by our peers in public finance in the Carolinas,” said Margaret Pope, founding attorney with Pope Flynn. “In more than forty years of helping to develop creative ways to finance public infrastructure projects — from ports to schools, stadiums to fire stations — I have been privileged to see our two states grow and prosper. Many things have changed, but holding ourselves to the highest standards of excellence, attention to detail, and client service has remained the same at Pope Flynn. We are all honored to work in this region, and to be a part of so much success and growth.”
