Joe Lucas, an attorney concentrating in public finance, development finance, and banking and underwriting with Pope Flynn, a Columbia-based law firm, has received Lawyer of the Year in Public Finance Law for Charlotte from The Best Lawyers in America© 2015. The designation is given to only a single lawyer in each practice area in each community, and is “based on particularly impressive voting averages received during the exhaustive peer-review assessments.” Lucas has been listed in Best Lawyers® for public finance law since 2005.
“Joe has worked in public finance in the Carolinas for more than 20 years,” says Belton Zeigler, managing partner with Pope Flynn, “and we are fortunate to have a lawyer with his integrity and talent leading our North Carolina office. Hospitals, colleges and universities, secondary schools, charitable non-profit organizations, and city and county governments all serve as the foundation of our communities and Joe has been engaged in serving those entities for many years. We are honored that his work has been recognized by his peers.”
Lucas is Vice President and serves on the executive committee of the Mary Duke Biddle Trent Semans Foundation in Durham, and serves on the board of directors of The Josiah Charles Trent Memorial Endowment Fund at Duke University. He recently retired from the board of directors of Myers Park Trinity Little League in Charlotte after serving for more than 12 years, including nine years as President of the league. Lucas graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a BA in history, then went on to receive his JD from Duke University School of Law.
