Working at Pope Flynn

We welcome submissions of interest for employment, both from attorneys experienced in public finance and government law, and from law students who would like to learn more about our practice through a clerkship at Pope Flynn.

A Boutique Law Firm

Pope Flynn is a small, boutique law firm with a focus on representing governmental entities throughout the Carolinas, as well as a construction and project litigation practice added in 2016. Based in Columbia, South Carolina, our firm began in 2008 with just three attorneys. From that humble start, the firm has grown to 11 attorneys and four offices: Columbia, Charleston, Charlotte, and Spartanburg.

Become Part of the Team

Our approach at Pope Flynn is unique in that we serve our clients as a team rather than a group of individuals. This approach coupled with a focus throughout our firm on the issues affecting governmental clients allows our attorneys to develop a deep knowledge in our practice area. Drawing on that deep knowledge permits us to offer imaginative solutions for complex and difficult problems. Our attorneys enjoy working in support of each other to solve the often novel issues that arise with our clients. Working at Pope Flynn carries the added benefit of having the opportunity to help public entities throughout the Carolinas and elsewhere in the Southeast thrive by offering sound legal advice and developing creative and innovative means to finance critical infrastructure.

Our firm is structured to foster a work environment that is collaborative and team-based. We are focused and imaginative and are able to bring those attributes to bear on legal issues due in large part to the experience of our colleagues and their willingness to help out when called upon. Our attorneys eagerly work together to best serve the needs of the client.

Scale without Bureaucracy

Pope Flynn has the size, depth, and experience of a public finance/governmental counsel practice at larger firms, but without the bureaucracy and depersonalization that can be common at big firms. Because of our focus on representing government entities we have limited private sector and litigation conflicts.

Law Students

Pope Flynn occasionally hires law clerks during the summer or the school year as needs may arise, and we typically notify law schools within our region when we are interested in accepting resumes. While we do not solicit resumes on an on-going basis, we are always happy to hear from second-year or rising third-year law students who have a genuine interest in our practice area, prior experience in finance or local government, and excellent grades and writing ability.

If you are interested in clerking with us, please email your resume to employment@popeflynn.com.

Public Finance & Governmental Law Attorneys

We are always interested in hearing from experienced public finance and governmental law attorneys, whether in the Carolinas or farther afield throughout the Southeast.
